Oscar Kuruvilla, M.D.

Oscar Kuruvilla, M.D., grew up in the Philadelphia area. He attended Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH, where he graduated with honors with B.A. degrees in Biology and Psychology. From there he moved south to Columbus, OH and completed medical school at The Ohio State University. During this time, he completed a course in traditional Chinese medicine in Wenzhou, China. He finished his internship and residency in Ophthalmology at the Henry Ford Hospital in Michigan where he served as Chief Resident.

He completed a fellowship specializing in diseases of the retina at Vanderbilt Eye Institute in Nashville, TN. His areas of interest and specialized training include diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, with additional training in uveitis. In addition, he practices general ophthalmology with a special interest in cataract surgery. He prides himself on his communication skills and the rapport he establishes with his patients.

He has authored scientific papers in the areas of neurodegenerative disease, ocular pharmacology and acquired macular diseases. In addition, he has had numerous presentations at the Academy of Ophthalmology and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He serves as a board member for the Charlotte Ophthalmology Society.

Dr. Kuruvilla is married and enjoys spending time with his wife and children. He also enjoys football, outdoor activities, cooking and movies.
